The north side of the city walls contained a complex structure.

There were two gates in the wall, one of which was the "double gate" as it had two small openings.

Between the two gates on the city-side of the wall was the Pompeion, a place that stored the materials used in the formal procession.

The column bases in this image belong to the Pompeion. The double gate is at far right, the sacred gate at the near left.
