Located to the northwest of the Acropolis is the ancient cemetery as well as the old potters' quarter. It was also the area that prostitutes lived and worked.
The modern word 'ceramics' comes from kerameikos.
Numerous interesting grave markers are on site and in the little museum here.
The site is most famous for the funeral oration of Pericles, given here in 430-429 BCE.
