Two elections in 2012 brought a 3-party coalition government, led by New Democracy, to power. This replaced a caretaker administration that approved the first round of the austerity program. In 2015 the left-wing party SYRIZA took power but was unable to gain agreement from the EU to solve the economic crisis. In 2019, the center-right New Democracy returned to power.
Greek Foreign Policy
Greek foreign policy has been dominated by fending off Turkey; however prior to the financial crisis the country had been more directed to European integration and becoming a leader in the Balkans. The rise of Turkish agression is creating tension again.
