This life size statue was found only in 1896 during the first modern excavation of Delphi.

Cast in bronze using a lost-wax technique it dates from approximately 478 BCE.

It got buried under a rock fall and so survived when many other such statues did not.

As always with ancient Greek art - look at just how detailed the statue is and the way that clothing is rendered to be life-like. However, traces of the severe pre-classical style still are evident in this work.

Even eyelashes are depicted and the glass eyeballs have survived.
