General view of the fountain. Openings to six water basins are on the right; a courtyard is out of sight on the left.
The six openings each have a small reservoir for water. Behind that are three distribution basins which were originally fed directly from supply tunnels. Later four large reservoirs, holding perhaps 100,000 gallons total were carved behind the distribution basins. Two supply tunnels feed the fountain and also supply water to wells for the south stoa. It is an extensive system still functioning today.
Detail of one of the water basins showing the support at the back leading to the small distribution basins.
An older view (from 1994) of the courtyard, looking SW.
